Surveillance camera footage captured coffee lovers in a unique position—dancing for free coffee from a local cafe! Have a watch (and learn a move or two):

Sea Point, South Africa (27 October 2024) — South Africans celebrated Heritage Day in all kinds of ways this year, but one of the best was those who found themselves making a mark on a Sea Point cafe’s surveillance footage as they danced for free coffee.

If you know Cape Town well, you know it’s nothing if not a coffee lovers playground. Coastal neighbourhood Sea Point has some of the best coffee shops out of town, and one of them decided to offer up free coffee on Heritage Day to those brave enough to bust out all the moves for it!

With a chalkboard sign, Kanela Cafe offered those passing by a challenge—dance for free coffee for all the internet to see.

From shy movers and shakers to trio’s putting on a full choreographed routine—it was all laughs and smiles from the team at Kanela as they watched people serve up platters of moves for the free cups.

Kanela is a gorgeous Greek-inspired cafe; so it only made sense that dancing would be the way to the treasure trove. And really, do most South Africans even need an excuse to dance?

Though Heritage Day is done and dusted, the idea was a marker of one of the biggest elements that cross-sections all our country’s cultures—we all love to have fun.

Perhaps next year, one of our famous dancing cops will pop by and get arrested for stealing the show!
