South Africa’s generosity has given a father and husband a fighting chance against one of the rarest forms of cancer. We previously shared how your kind hearts helped contribute a large portion to Reverend Barry Fourie’s treatment, and the incredible news is it’s working!
Eastern Cape, South Africa (14 May 2025) – When hope seemed like a fragile thread, the incredible generosity of South Africans has given Reverend Barry Fourie and his family the strength to persevere and a true fighting chance.
Diagnosed with a rare Epithelioid Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Sarcoma, Reverend Barry Fourie is now halfway through his cancer treatment, and it is working!
Fourie’s daughter, Minki, was overjoyed and deeply grateful to share her father’s progress with Good Things Guy.
“It is amazing how our story touched people’s hearts and their contributions have helped us raise an incredible R820,000 of the R1.5 million required for his treatment.
“We’re deeply thankful for everyone’s trust in our cause and their willingness to help,” Minki shared.
Despite the challenges, particularly the fact that medical aid does not cover Fourie’s immunotherapy treatment, the family refuses to lose hope that he will make a full recovery.
Together they have gone above and beyond to rally support and pay towards his treatment through fundraisers, raffles, food sales and appeals. South Africa’s continued support through heartfelt donations has also played a significant part of the journey.
“We have received great news so far, the treatment is working!! We have seen a 33% decrease in the sarcoma that grows after surgery. We know we are on the right treatment and my dad is feeling good on it,” Minki added.
