After a month of heartbreaking separation, a miracle has reunited Hunter with his loving dog dad. The emotional reunion was the perfect happy ending to a collective effort, with Hunter’s dad generously donating the reward money to the Edenvale SPCA to cover the vet bills and Hunter’s microchip.

Edenvale, South Africa (30 January 2025) – There’s nothing quite like a pet parent and fur-baby reunion story to make you believe in miracles and happy endings!

Recently, tugging at our hearts was the story of Hunter and his Dad. Hunter had somehow managed to part ways with his human companion, who was left heartbroken and declared him missing in December.

In an unexpected turn of events, last Tuesday, Edenvale SPCA received a call about a dog that had one of its tag numbers. After gathering all the relevant information about the dog from the man who contacted them, it was revealed that the poor dog had blood in his faeces.

Edenvale SPCA managed to link the dog to a missing report of a dog that had gone missing in the area on 27 December 2024 – matching Hunter’s description.

Strangely enough, the dog had managed to find its way to Jeppe Town, but the gentleman who had called the SPCA wasn’t able to bring him.

“We requested assistance from our colleagues at Johnsburg SPCA, and Inspector Diale kindly agreed to help us out,” explains Edenvale SPCA.

The pup was collected and taken to the Kempton Park Animal Hospital for treatment, where the vet confirmed he had a bacterial infection and prescribed medication.

Hunter’s Dad received the long-awaited call that his fur-baby was finally found on 24 January, three days shy from missing for a month! And just like that, Daddy and Hunter were reunited!

According to the SPCA, Hunter was all better, and his daddy donated the R5,000 reward money to them, which was used to pay for his vet account and microchip.

This is what “happy tails” are made of! We’re so chuffed this family got their happy ending.
