Judd Aron and his loyal dog, Apollo, were more than a familiar sight on the streets of Bryanston and Fourways – they were a symbol of unwavering love and resilience, a bond so strong that it inspired a community to rally together in their darkest hour.

Johannesburg, South Africa (27 January 2025) – The Bryanston and Fourways communities are grieving the loss of Judd Aron, a man known for his presence on the side of the road and also for the incredible bond he shared with his beloved dog, Apollo.

Judd was a familiar face in the area, always accompanied by his best friend. The inseparable pair spent their days together, earning the compassion of locals who recognised their unbreakable bond. Judd was deeply dedicated to Apollo’s well-being, often putting the dog’s needs above his own. Local veterinarians regularly stepped in to provide free care for Apollo, ensuring that Judd’s constant companion was always healthy and safe.

When news of Judd’s tragic passing broke over the weekend, the community was thrown into turmoil.

An initial post shared inaccurate information, claiming he had been murdered. The shocking report caused widespread panic, but relief came swiftly as the correct details emerged: Judd had passed away from natural causes.

While early reports also suggested that Apollo had gone missing, a reader clarified the events, shedding light on what truly happened.

“Judd had been feeling very unwell and had asked a trusted friend to collect Apollo from where he lived so that he could seek medical attention. Tragically, he never made it to the hospital. The same friend has since taken Apollo in, ensuring he is safe and well cared for.

Apollo is now being showered with love by Judd’s friend Lynette, who has stepped up to ensure that the loyal dog is surrounded by the care he deserves.

Judd’s passing will leave a void for those who knew him personally and for many who often only saw him and his kind greetings while in traffic, but his legacy lives on in the love people continue to show for Apollo. In honour of Judd, some residents have planned to lay flowers at the spot where he and Apollo were often seen. It’s a small but heartfelt gesture to remember a man whose unwavering devotion to his dog touched so many hearts.

The Sandton SPCA, local veterinarians and compassionate neighbours all played a role in ensuring Judd and Apollo’s story would not be forgotten. It’s important to acknowledge that many other individuals and community members rallied together to assist both Judd and Apollo during this difficult time. Their kindness and collective efforts reflect the strength of the community spirit.

His family, though devastated by their loss, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community.

Judd Aron may no longer be with us, but the love he gave to Apollo and the kindness shown by so many will forever be part of his legacy. Rest in peace, Judd, knowing that your faithful companion is safe and surrounded by love.
