A young South African petrol attendant has taken TikTok by storm, proving that pride in your work and a positive attitude can fuel more than just cars – it can inspire a nation.

South Africa (16 January 2025) – A South African TikTokker has captured hearts across the country with a video that oozes positivity and pride in his work.

Known online as “Ntiyisslapchips,” this young man has gone viral for his heartfelt reflections on being a petrol attendant at BP – and he’s showing everyone why every job matters.

Ntiyisslapchips recently completed Matric and began working as a petrol attendant, embracing the role with enthusiasm and purpose. In his video, he shares his wisdom with a maturity beyond his years:

“A job is a job, but it’s not just being a petrol attendant. You get more experience, you learn new things, you meet people, you communicate.”

The TikTok video also reveals his excitement about his achievements, proving that pride in one’s work is a recipe for success.

“People are going to judge you (on the job you have), but look at me—I just bought an iPhone 13 Pro Max. It’s a big accomplishment. It’s daddy’s money; it’s not mommy’s money. I did it with my own money, and there are still plenty more things to come.”

His story resonates with many South Africans, not just because of his hard work but because it shines a light on the often-overlooked value of petrol attendants.

Unlike in many countries where drivers pump their own petrol, South Africa has long maintained a full-service system. Petrol attendants play a vital role by providing convenience and, more importantly, creating thousands of job opportunities. They serve with a smile, share quick chats, and remind us that small moments of human connection can brighten anyone’s day.

South Africans on social media were quick to applaud Ntiyisslapchips for his positive attitude, sharing their own experiences and words of encouragement:

“Gonna go far, kid. Attitude > Aptitude.”

“Hats off to you! No shame in the job—it’s a job 👌. Most young people sit on their couches ‘cause they expect to walk into 16k after Matric! Keep achieving.”

“Bra, in that job you can meet one person that can change your life. I always say people in hospitality/retail are some of the luckiest people because you never know who you’ll meet there! Salute”

“My first job after Matric was as a cleaner at BP. Like you said, never had to ask my parents for money. Today, I’m busy with my second degree.”

“I can’t agree more. So many people aren’t interested in work if it doesn’t pay R10k+. We’ve all got to start somewhere and work up from there. Great attitude!!! Bly sterk.”

This story is more than a celebration of one young man’s pride in his job; it’s a reminder to us all to appreciate every step of our journeys. Whether it’s your first job or a step toward a bigger dream, hard work and determination pay off. Ntiyisslapchips has shown that success isn’t measured by titles or societal expectations but by the pride and effort you put into everything you do. With his attitude and drive, it’s clear that he’s only just getting started – and South Africa is cheering him on every step of the way!
