He helped make peri-peri global but now Robbie Brozin is turning his fire toward something even bigger… the soul of a city.

Johannesburg, South Africa (28 May 2025) – There’s something incredible that happens when you sit down with someone who not only dreams of a better South Africa… but rolls up their sleeves and actually gets stuck in to make it happen.

On this week’s episode of Good Things with Brent Lindeque, I had the absolute privilege of chatting to Robbie Brozin (yes, that Robbie Brozin), the co-founder of Nando’s, the man behind Goodbye Malaria, and the driving force behind the growing movement that is Jozi My Jozi.

You might know him because of peri-peri chicken and those cheeky Nando’s ads but his purpose has always been deeper than spice. These days, his mission is clearer than ever: he wants to fix Johannesburg. Not for clout, not for likes, not for a quick win… but because he genuinely loves this city. And it’s that kind of passion that’s hard not to be inspired by.

“Joburg’s got soul,” he tells me. “We just have to clean it up a bit and show people how amazing it already is.”

Robbie’s story is a proudly South African one, from building an international food brand rooted in local flavour, to fighting malaria across Africa, and now investing his time, energy and heart into revitalising Jozi.

He’s not shouting from the sidelines; he’s hands-on, funding artists, cleaning up spaces, building bridges between business and community and lighting a fire under what could be possible if more people joined in.

What struck me most in our chat is how much he believes in us. In South Africans. In our creativity, our resilience, our humour and our ability to overcome.

“The answers aren’t somewhere else,” Robbie says. “They’re right here. In us. We just need to believe it.”

And that’s what this episode is about. It’s about possibility. About taking ownership. About finding your lane and doing something, anything, to make where you live better.

Robbie Brozin is one of those rare humans who makes you want to do more. Be more. He reminds us that it’s not about waiting for someone else to fix things. It’s about starting. It’s about showing up. It’s about finding the good and growing it.

And that, my friends, is a good thing. A really good thing.

From viral laughs to real impact, Gugu Statu isn’t just delivering the #NOOZ… she’s changing how South Africans connect with the headlines.

South Africa (14 May 2025) – This week on Good Things with Brent Lindeque, we laughed. A lot. But more than that, we were reminded, again, of the power of joy, satire, and authenticity to bring us together, especially when the world feels a little upside down.

I had the absolute pleasure of chatting to Gugu Statu, the brilliant mind, voice and sass behind the now-iconic #NOOZ segment that’s taken South African social media by storm. What started out as a fun skit inspired by those infamous “Family Meetings” during COVID has evolved into something far bigger. And far more impactful… than anyone could have imagined.

“People were anxious. They were doom-scrolling. We just needed something to laugh about,” Gugu said.

And so, she took the headlines and flipped them on their head, quite literally, serving up the news with a hilarious twist, a side-eye or two and a whole lot of truth dressed in humour. But #NOOZ isn’t her only alter ego. She has also created Bebe, a character who somehow feels like your best friend, your aunty, your life coach and your hype squad rolled into one. Bebe doesn’t just share the news… she feels it. And if you’re battling to get out of bed, Bebe’s the one reminding you that you’ve survived worse and that today is worth showing up for.

With a solid background in television and production, Gugu is no stranger to storytelling. But what makes her work so special is how rooted it is in love… love for her country, her people and the shared experience of navigating the chaos with a bit of grace and a whole lot of giggles.

And here’s something else worth celebrating: each episode of the podcast/vidcast/vodcast is now being streamed over half a million times. That’s massive! And it’s only happening because of you. So thank you. Seriously. Every listen, every share, every kind comment, you’ve helped make this what it is. And a big thank you to Nando’s for lighting a flame in what we do, with their generous sponsorship of the 2025 season. Your support has made it possible for us to keep telling good stories, to keep shining a light, and to keep making South Africans proud.

It’s not the conversation you expect on a podcast called “Good Things” but maybe it’s the one we all need. Danny Painter opens up about death, love and finding life again after loss.

South Africa (07 May 2025) – Grief doesn’t come with a manual… but Danny Painter’s working on one.

This week’s episode of “Good Things with Brent Lindeque” is unlike anything we’ve ever done. It’s raw. It’s real. It’s uncomfortable at times. And it’s beautiful. I sat down with my friend Danny Painter, and we spoke about everything. Grief, love, death, therapy, sex toys, laughter, AI companions (yes, she has named hers Alex), and the chaotic, confusing road to healing after loss.

Danny, a well-known voice on Jacaranda FM and a familiar face on TV, lost her husband, Phil, to a sudden heart attack in September 2023. He was her person for 17 years. Her best friend. Her everything. And just like that, life was split into before and after.

Since then, she’s done something remarkable, she’s let us in. She’s opened the door to her grief with honesty and grace, building a platform for others who are walking the same painful path. Her podcast, Life After Death, is a brave and bold exploration of what it really means to carry on after your world shatters. It’s not just about crying into your pillow at 3am (though there’s a fair amount of that, too). It’s about the awkward questions, the unexpected giggles, and the wild, weird ways we piece our lives back together.

“From the big existential questions like ‘What happens when you die?’ to the deeply practical ones like ‘How do I change a tyre?’, this podcast is for anyone trying to figure out life after loss,” she says.

She’s not trying to be a grief guru.

As she puts it, “This isn’t a guidebook. It’s my journey. But if it helps someone else feel seen or a little less alone, then that means something.”

And that’s the good thing.

Danny’s courage to sit in the discomfort, to speak the unspeakable, and to still crack a laugh when talking about buying her first sex toy after loss… that’s healing and hope. She’s living proof that even in our darkest chapters, there are ways to find light, connection, and maybe even joy again. So whether you’re grieving, supporting someone who is, or just curious about what it means to really live, this episode is for you. Because while loss may change our story, it doesn’t have to end it (or define it).
