These Mini Kennel Makeovers Made Us Smile

How adorable are these mini kennel makeovers? The SPCA Rustenburg was recently treated to some cartoon creativity that we just loved.

Rustenburg, South Africa (14 May 2025) — As anyone who has ever felt entirely different about their apartment simply because they painted a bland wall will know, a little splash of colour and change can go a long way in uplifting the spirits of a space. Recently, the SPCA Rustenburg got to relish in the feeling of creativity after they were treated to a series of mini kennel makeovers at the shelter. And we just love what the kids came up with.

The cartoon creativity came by way of participants in Rustenburg High School’s ‘Mr and Ms Rusties’ Project. Mr and Ms Rustie’s participants often pour efforts into their local SPCA, helping out with everything from fundraising to securing food and essentials donations.

Thanks to the participants, the SPCA’s kennels now have some new ‘residents’; from the most literal sausage dog you’ve ever seen to sleeping blue pooches.

Considering that dogs have dichromatic vision, the colour palette of choice (lots of yellow and blue) was yet another thoughtful choice from the young artists.

The gesture is a soft reminder that sometimes what you lack in resources, you can make up for with creativity and kindness. And where there’s a bare wall, there might just be an artist’s calling! In fact, of the latter, there is in fact, an artist’s calling from the Tshwane SPCA.
