Never having ridden in a taxi before, Sebaga Kgeledi embarked on a hilarious and slightly nerve-wracking adventure, documenting her first-time experience. She navigated the taxi rank, braved the unknown, and discovered the vibrant reality of daily commutes for millions!

Johannesburg, South Africa (04 April 2025) – Millions of South Africans rely on public transport to get by, with the popular Toyota minibuses (aka iTaxi) being at the top of the list of preferred daily commutes to work, home, town and just about anywhere really.

One admittedly privileged young woman, Sebaga Kgeledi, who had never been in one before, decided to take it upon herself to ride a Mzansi taxi for the very first time and document it too!

In a video shared on TikTok, Sebaga is seen bursting with nerves and excitement as she takes viewers along with her on the taxi ride adventure, which she had to beg her dad to accompany her.

After withdrawing some cash from the ATM, her dad drives her to a nearby taxi rank before nervously making her way to the taxi she needs to take.

Although she nervously jokes about getting lost or losing her phone, Sebaga meets some friendly strangers along the way who soon put her at ease.

And if you’re wondering why she’d go through all this trouble if she doesn’t need to, it’s simply because Sebaga felt detached from reality.

“I’m very bubbled and sheltered. It’s not nice because you go around meeting a lot of people, especially in my industry of fashion and they’re not from the same background as me.

“I need to be able to interact with people from all different walks of life. So, for me, it’s about gaining understanding and gaining perspective about other lives,” Sebaga shares in the clip.

Not only did she successfully make it to school, but Sebaga also got to experience life outside her norm.

The best part? What started as a potentially daunting journey turned into a culturally eye-opening and heartwarming experience, filled with friendly strangers and a newfound appreciation for the iTaxi’s role in South African life!
