Another week, another proud moment for Cape Town! The Mother City has recently been deemed the Best Long-Haul City Break in the World.
Cape Town, South Africa (04 February 2025) — It’s a very good year to be Cape Town! After the Mother City earned a place as one of the world’s best destinations for digital nomads and was crowned the Best City in the World, Cape Town now boasts another title: The Best Long-Haul City Break in the World for Brits.
In a “Which?” survey of over 1,500 members, British travellers sat down to rank their experiences in cities outside of Europe over the past year. Almost 2,500 destinations were considered and rated, but ultimately, Cape Town simply couldn’t be beaten—even by the destination heavyweights.
In fact, the Mother City went up against some pretty strong contenders, including hotspots like Tokyo, Sydney, Dubai and Los Angeles, before going on to take the top ranking.
Seven measures were taken into consideration to decide which city deserved the title. These were food and drink, accommodation, cultural and tourist attractions, shopping, ease of getting around, lack of crowds and value for money.
A no-brainer to anyone who’s fallen in love with the City, Cape Town shot the lights out across the ranking parameters, praised for its stunning natural beauty, delicious food and wine, and ‘incredible value for money’ (especially from a Brits perspective).
“Some cities are one-trick ponies, but the standout destinations in this year’s survey have it all—each offering unique cultural sights, top-class food and drink, and even sublime scenery,:’ remarked Rory Boland, Which? Travel editor.
Adds Cape Town Tourism CEO Enver Duminy with a grin, “Cape Town isn’t just a place—it’s a living, breathing masterpiece of art, culture and heritage.”
