For everyone dreaming of travelling in 2025, we have the easiest travel guide around where to travel visa-free! South Africans can travel to 58 countries, and Kiribati and Rwanda have been added to the list.

South Africa (13 January 2025) – The 2025 Passport Index has been released, and South Africa can now travel visa-free to 58 countries around the world! Dust off your passport; it’s time for an adventure.

The Passport Index details the ranking of every passport in the world. As it stands, the South African passport has a global ranking of 43 out of 91 and a world reach of 55%. That means you can travel over half the world without having to fork up funds for a visa, which is great news!

Sadly, this year, we have lost access to Ireland, Israel, Kenya, Kosovo, Qatar and Senegal. You can still travel to these places; the visa requirements have just changed. In other passport news, 46 countries now grant SA travellers with visas on arrival.

Since we started reporting the numbers in 2017, the number of countries we could access has increased each year, but this year, we have taken a slight dip.

There are, however, still 88 countries where you will need to undertake the full visa process. If you are curious about these stats, check the website using the link here. We will be highlighting the 58 countries where travel is visa-free below.
